Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva women′s basketball team seemed to be taking its momentum from Saturday′s victory over Chatham into its match-up with Grove City on Wednesday night. The Golden Tornadoes opened the game with the first eight points and shot 65% from the field in the first ten minutes of the game. Despite the hot shooting, Geneva could not shake Grove City and the Wolverines ended up with a 75-54 victory at Metheny Fieldhouse.
Geneva ended the first half shooting 40% from the field and knocking down six three-point field goals, but Grove City was equally as impressive and took a 34-29 lead into the locker room. Grove City used a 14-1 run late in the first half to seize control of the game and never trail throughout the entire second half.
The Wolverines out scored Geneva 41-25 in the second stanza and won going away from their seventh consecutive victory. Grove City improved to 8-5 while Geneva dropped back to .500 for the season at 7-7.
Christine Carugati enjoyed her best game of the season with a team best 19 points on 6-11 shooting including three treys. She also pulled down six rebounds in the loss. Joining Carugati in double figures were teammates Beth DeLuca (12) and Alyse Scarsella (11). Geneva was 6-13 from three-point range in the first half and went 0-13 from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes.
Grove City′s Megan Gebrosky scored 19 points on 5-7 from three-point range. PAC scoring leader Christine Slater added 18 points in the victory.
The Golden Tornadoes will host Westminster College on Saturday at 1 pm in an attempt to get back up over the .500 mark for the season. "We came out very well," said head coach Renee Drake. "We did a lot of good things on offense in the first half, but not so much on defense. We didn′t get shots to fall in the second half and we just could not slow them down all night."
