Gerard Muschette named offensive player of the year.Beaver Falls, PA - On the final carry of his collegiate career, Gerard Muschette left an indelible mark on his career with an overtime touchdown to send Geneva College to the winner′s circle against rival Westminster College. While that touchdown will stay in the minds of Geneva fans for years to come, it was the entire 2010 season that will go down in the Golden Tornadoes′ record book. Muschette, along with three of his teammates, were named NCCAA All-Americans this week while the senior running back was also named the national offensive player of the year.

Muschette broke the Geneva College career rushing mark thanks to his 1655 yards on 278 carries last fall. He also scored 17 rushing touchdowns and posted an average of 6.0 yards a carry and 165.5 yards rushing per game. Muschette was also Geneva′s leading receiver with 50 catches for 352 yards and three touchdowns.

Joining Muschette on the All-American offensive team were senior quarterback David Girardi and senior offensive lineman Lee Thieroff. It was the second consecutive year for both to be selected. As for Girardi, he threw for 2154 yards and 16 touchdowns while completing nearly 60% of his passes. Girardi was also named the NCCAA first team All-American punter with a national best 37.8 yard average with ten punts inside the 20 yard line.

Geneva′s lone defensive All-American was awarded to senior defensive lineman Adam Rose. Rose finished the 2010 campaign with 46 total tackles including a team best 12.5 tackles for loss. Rose also picked up five sacks, two blocked kicks and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

"It is quite an honor for our guys to be recognized on a national level," said head coach Geno DeMarco. "Each of these guys has worked extremely hard in our program and are tremendous young men on top of being outstanding football players."

Calvin Bini from Campbellsville was selected as the defensive player of the year with national champion North Greenville head coach Jamey Caldwell claiming coach of the year honors. Jim Hardy from Campbellsville was tabbed assistant coach of the year with special mention going to Geneva′s Mike Wickline, who tragically passed away in August after spending 35 years as an assistant coach at the high school and college levels.
