Rochester, NY - The Geneva College men′s basketball post-season run came to an abrupt end on Thursday night as the Golden Tornadoes dropped a 72-59 decision to Roberts Wesleyan College in the NCCAA East regional championship game. By virtue of the victory, Roberts Wesleyan will receive an automatic bid to the NCCAA national tournament beginning on March 17th. As for the Golden Tornadoes, the season ended much earlier than they had hoped with an overall record of 18-9. Geneva posted 18 victories for the second consecutive season but was unable to make a repeat appearance on the national stage.

"This is a very special group of young men," said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "We have some amazing seniors on this team that have showed tremendous leadership and character during the past four+ seasons and this is certainly not the way we were hoping to have things end."

Richard Colick and Bryan Hill have each enjoyed incredible careers for the Golden Tornadoes. Each saw their respective careers come to an end but not before each led the way once again in the scoring column for Geneva. Colick scored a team best 21 points while Hill knocked in four more treys for 17 points in the game. Unfortunately, the Golden Tornadoes had no other player score more than six points on a night when they shot just 33% from the floor as a team. Geneva managed just 11 first half field goals and shot 1-8 from three-point range in the first 20 minutes. The Golden Tornadoes fell behind by nine points at 38-29 at the half and could not recover. "We just couldn′t get any flow offensively in the first half," said Santarsiero. "They found a comfort zone early and we just weren′t able to make things difficult enough on them throughout the game."

While Geneva was struggling from the field, Roberts Wesleyan shot 45% for the game and got a game high 22 points from Justin Andreozzi on 9-17 shooting. He also pulled down 11 rebounds in the victory. Roberts Wesleyan dominated the glass by the tune of 49-34 on the night. "We have struggled at times this year on the glass but tonight we had no answers for that team."

Roberts Wesleyan improved to 20-12 on the season and will enjoy a week off before heading to the national tournament in Oakland City, IN on March 17th.
