Beaver Falls, PA - It was far from a perfectly ideal day for softball on College Hill, but the rain stayed away longs enough for Geneva College to sweep a doubleheader against Bethany College by the scores of 8-2 and 11-1. The Golden Tornadoes banged out a total of 20 hits in the twin bill as they moved their current win streak to five games and their overall record to 12-6.

The offense got jump started early in game one with three runs in the first inning. RBI singles from Ashley Davis and Leanne Abate opened the scoring before a Christina Fuqua squeeze bunt plated the third talley. After Bethany scored a run in the fourth, Geneva came back with a pair in the bottom of the inning. Anjelica Marsh provided a sacrifice fly and Leah Prisuta connected on an RBI single. The rest of the offense came via the long ball as Leanne Abate connected on a two-run blast in the fifth and Adriane Blake hit her second homer of the season with a solo shot in the sixth. Julie DiLonardo went the distance to earn the victory. She pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run on six hits while striking out three.

Blake, Abate and Samantha Bautista each connected on two hits in game with Blake and Abate both providing home runs and multiple RBI′s. Geneva finished the first game with 12 hits.

Game two opened much like game one with the Golden Tornadoes striking first with a pair in the first inning. Prisuta and Martha Adams each scored on successive ground outs. Bethany scored its only run in the bottom of the first but Geneva was far from finished on offense. Leah Prisuta was 4-4 in game two and reached base five times with three runs scored. She scored on a Martha Adams double in the fourth inning which was promptly followed by an Ashley Davis RBI double. Four more runs in the sixth inning highlighted by another Blake home run forced the game to be called because of the run rule. Ariel Lilly went the distance to earn the victory. She pitched six innings and allowed just one earned run with six hits and a pair of strikeouts. Other offensive stars included two hits performances from Blake, Davis and Abate.

The Golden Tornadoes will get back to work on the road next week when they visit Chatham on Thursday and Westminster on Saturday.
