New Wilmington, PA - The Geneva College softball team took advantage of some mistakes in game one of Saturday′s doubleheader at Westminster College. The Golden Tornadoes rallied for a 6-2 victory in game one extending their win streak to eight games. Geneva made some costly mistakes of its own in the night cap as the win streak was snapped with a 7-4 loss to the Titans. The split moved Geneva′s overall record to 15-8.

The Golden Tornadoes could get nothing going on offense through five innings in game one and trailed 2-0 heading to the sixth inning. It was in the sixth inning that Geneva posted six spot to take the lead. Geneva was the benefactor of four Westminster errors in the inning that highlighted the rally. Leanne Abate and Christina Fuqua each had running scoring hits in the inning to grab some insurance. Geneva managed just five hits in the game. Ariel Lilly allowed just one earned run in 3.1 innings of work. Julie DiLonardo pitched the final 3.2 innings to earn her 11th victory of the season. DiLonardo allowed just two hits in her relief appearance.

DiLonardo started game two and gave up just one earned run through six innings. Leading 1-0 heading into the seventh inning, Westminster would get some insurance of its own. Taking advantage of two Geneva errors, the Titans posted six runs in the seventh inning highlighted by a three-run homer. Trailing by seven in the bottom of the seventh, Geneva rallied for four runs and loaded the bases with one out before Westminster was able to put a lid on the victory. Leanne Abate had two of Geneva′s six hits in the night cap to go along with a two-run single in the seventh inning.

The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Ohio Christian on Tuesday before returning home for doubleheaders with Baldwin-Wallace and Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday and Thursday.
