Beaver Falls, PA - One thing was certain on Tuesday afternoon at Geneva College and that was the rain was going to fall at some point. The Golden Tornadoes hooked up with Penn State Beaver in a doubleheader on College Hill and managed to sneak in a pair of games before the rain worsened. Geneva managed to win both ends of the doubleheader by the scores of 9-1 and 4-3. The sweep moved Geneva′s overall record to 22-10.

Game one was shortened after five innings because of the mercy rule when Geneva pushed across its final run in the bottom of the fifth. The scoring opened in the first inning on an RBI ground out from Ashley Davis. Davis knocked in Geneva′s second run in a five run third inning with an RBI single. Leanne Abate followed with a bases clearing triple to open the game up. Lori Deem′s RBI single closed out the rally in the third inning. Ariel Lilly went the distance for her fifth victory of the season. She allowed one unearned run on four hits and struck out four batters.

The Golden Tornadoes seemed to have game two well in control taking a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning, but the Lions rallied to tie the game and force Geneva to win in walk off fashion in the bottom of the inning. Geneva posted single runs in the second, third and sixth innings. Brittany Clark provided a run scoring single in the second to open the scoring before and Adriane Blake suicide squeeze scored Leah Prisuta in the third. A much needed insurance run came across in the sixth on a fielding error. With the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Martha Adams came up with the game winning double to give Geneva the sweep. Julie DiLonardo picked up her 17th victory of the season with a complete game effort. She allowed just one hit through six inning while striking out six but things didn′t come easy in the final frame. Two walks, an error and a pair of hits proved costly as Geneva had to rally for the victory.

The Golden Tornadoes will host Thiel College in the home finale on Thursday at 3:30 pm in a doubleheader.
