New Wilmington, PA - So far in 2011, the expectations surrounding the Geneva College women′s volleyball team are coming to fruition. The Golden Tornadoes won for the fifth consecutive time within the Presidents′ Athletic Conference and pushed their overall record to 7-2 including a perfect 5-0 mark within the conference. Geneva defeated Chatham University 3-1 in the first match of the night by scores of 25-8, 25-14, 18-25, 25-6. The Golden Tornadoes then took the night cap from the host Titans by an identical 3-1 score with game scores of 25-19, 25-19, 16-25, 25-18.

The theme of Geneva′s match against Chatham was efficiency. Rachel Kuegler led the offense with 11 kills while teammates Erin Smith (9 kills) and Maggie Bowersox (6 kills) each had a hitting percentage of well over .400. In fact, Kuegler had just one hitting error on 20 swings to lead the way.

In match number two, Geneva′s offense was again quite efficient with sophomore Deanna Briody setting her way to 41 assists. Her favorite target was Kristland McCracken who posted 20 kills for the second time in the last three matches. Bowersox added 12 kills in the night cap with Ashley Davis chipping in with 11 kills.

The Golden Tornadoes will step out of conference play this weekend with four challenging matches at the Hiram College Tournament. Geneva opens play on Friday with matches against Mt. Union and Otterbein at 5 and 7 pm respectively. Geneva will not play another conference match until it travels to Thiel College on September 27th.
