Beaver Falls, PA - It was a long four years and ten games for the Geneva College women′s soccer team awaiting its first Presidents′ Athletic Conference match. After opening the 2011 season with a non-conference record of 4-5-1, the Golden Tornadoes kicked off conference play on Saturday with a 5-1 loss to Washington & Jefferson.

Geneva and W & J played a spirited first half with the President′s tallying the only goal in the first 45 minutes. Chrissy Marcius found the net in the 20th minute for the only first half tally. W & J took control of the match with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart early in the second half. The President′s then scored in minutes 69 and 76 to extend their lead to 5-0.

The Golden Tornadoes managed to avoid the shut-out when Julie Collins headed the ball into the net for her fourth goal of the season with less than five minutes remaining in regulation.

W & J out shot Geneva 20-5 for the match as the Golden Tornadoes managed only three shots on goal. Karmyn Culbertson started in goal for a Geneva team that saw three different players in goal throughout the match. Culbertson allowed two goals and made a pair of saves before being lifted in the second half because of an injury.

Geneva will seek its first conference victory next Wednesday when it travels to Saint Vincent College. The Golden Tornadoes return home next Saturday for a 5 pm kickoff with Westminster.
