Crestview Hills, KY - Geneva′s dream of going undefeated in the PAC volleyball regular season came to an end on Saturday as the Golden Tornadoes suffered their first loss in conference play 3-1 to Bethany College. The good news for the first place Golden Tornadoes is they were able to quickly recover to defeat Thomas More 3-2 in the final match of the day. The doubleheader split moves Geneva′s overall record to 13-7 including an 8-1 mark in the PAC.

Geneva′s day opened by dropping a match in four games to Bethany by scores of 17-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-18. Despite the loss, Maggie Bowersox was a dominant force. Bowersox finished the match with team highs in kills (17), blocks (5) and service aces (5). She was aided by 40 assists from Deanna Briody. Rachel Kuegler also finished with double digit kills numbers with ten in the loss. On defense, Brianna Mixter picked up 30 digs.

Kuegler′s effort against Thomas More was even more impressive as she finished with a team high 18 kills. Geneva would need everyone one of those kills as it took five games for the victory. Geneva won by game scores of 17-25, 25-20, 16-25, 32-30, 15-13. Bowersox was again on her game in the second match with 12 kills and three blocks. Erin Smith also came off the bench to pick up three blocks and play a significant role in the victory. Briody had 47 assists and Mixter finished with 37 digs to lead the team in those respective categories.

Geneva will head back home to host Thiel on Wednesday night before enjoying a week off from competition.
