Waynesburg, PA - The Geneva women′s tennis team was coming off a pair of non-conference victories so it seemed right at home getting back into PAC action on Saturday. For the first time all season, the Golden Tornadoes nudged above the .500 mark in the PAC with a 5-4 victory at Waynesburg. The win improved Geneva′s overall record to 4-6 including a 4-3 mark in the PAC.
The match opened with the Golden Tornadoes taking two of three in doubles action. The team of Kara Zimmerman and Cassie Califf took care of things by the count of 8-4 while teammates Amy Weller and Julie Kline won their match 8-5.
Geneva needed to win three of the six singles matches for the victory and it did just that. Zimmerman, Kline and Brittany Kress did the work and the Golden Tornadoes escaped with the one point victory.
For the second time this season, Kress was the final player on the court with a chance to complete the decision. She won her #6 singles match by the score of 6-4, 6-2 to pick up the win. Zimmerman and Kline also won their matches in straight sets.
Geneva will travel to Washington & Jefferson on Thursday for the only match of the week. The Golden Tornadoes return home on the 17th to face Bethany.
