Grove City, PA - The hope was after Geneva and Grove City hooked up in a critical PAC match-up on Saturday, the post-season scenarios would look a bit clearer. As it turned out, the waters are still quite murky as Geneva and Grove City played to a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of action. As a result, Geneva moved to 11-4-2 overall and 5-1-1 in conference play. Grove City pushed its overall record to 10-4-1 including a 4-1-1 mark within the conference. The Golden Tornadoes have last place Thiel left on the schedule next Saturday while Grove City will face Saint Vincent and Westminster next week. Both teams lost to first place Thomas More earlier in the year and are fighting for the number two seed and a home play-off game in the first round of the PAC tournament. What is becoming quite clear is that Geneva and Grove City will most likely meet again in that first round match-up with the home field piece of the puzzle still up for grabs.
Grove City looked as though it was going to get the edge when it opened the scoring 26 minutes into the match. Andrew Quinn found the net to put the Wolverines in the lead for the majority of the match. Senior midfielder and Geneva leading scorer Jake McCracken had other ideas as he tied the game in the 63rd minute on a penalty kick goal. Grove City only managed three shots on goal as freshman Bryan Butler needed to make only two saves but one in particular on a direct kick kept the game tied. Neither team could find the net in the 20 minute overtime period as the game ended as a tie.
Geneva out shot Grove City 14-5 in the game with the Wolverine′s Caleb Koch make three saves to preserve the tie.
The Golden Tornadoes will close out the regular season next Saturday at Thiel College and will then open up the PAC tournament on Tuesday, November 1st, either in Beaver Falls or back in Grove City. The winner of that semi-final match will advance to the PAC finals on Saturday, November 5th at the highest remaining seed.
