Crestview Hills, KY - The Geneva College men′s soccer team came within five minutes of capturing the school′s first Presidents′ Athletic Conference title. The Golden Tornadoes watched a two-goal second half lead disappear before dropping a 3-2 decision to Thomas More in overtime. The loss dropped Geneva′s overall record to 13-5-2 while Thomas More′s late game rally pushed the Saints to 16-1-1 on the season.

Playing just two days after defeating Grove City 2-1 in the PAC semi-finals, the Golden Tornadoes used that momentum to jump on the defending conference champion Saints with a two-goal lead. The Golden Tornadoes′ Jeb Nash got Geneva on the board in the 27th minute on an assist from Austin Petrie. Ironically, it was the Nash/Petrie combination that resulted in the game winning goal on Wednesday against Grove City. Geneva held its 1-0 lead into the second half when the Golden Tornadoes struck for appeared to be an insurance goal. Josh Mann′s goal on a rebound put Geneva up 2-0 just nine minutes into the second half.

Thomas More started its way back with its first goal of the night with 28 minutes remaining in regulation. The game remained 2-1 until the final moments of the match. With just under five minutes left in regulation, the Saints′ Nick Brohas took a feed from Alex Dean and beat goalkeeper Bryan Butler to tie the score at 2-2.

The overtime session did not last very long as Thomas More found the net just over five minutes into the extra frame. Alec Robbins became the hero with the championships goal on an assist from Ricky Barria.

"It′s obviously very disappointing and frustrating," said head coach Gary Dunda. "We played well enough to win the game, but we didn′t finish it off in crunch time. We got a taste of championship soccer but unfortunately it was pretty bittersweet."

Geneva′s season is not over as it will await word on the time and date for the NCCAA eastern regional tournament. The Golden Tornadoes are currently the fourth seed in the east region behind Malone and Nyack.
