Beaver Falls, PA - Although the weather made things feel like the Geneva College softball team was still in Florida, the Golden Tornadoes did indeed open their home schedule on Friday with a doubleheader sweep over Houghton College. The Golden Tornadoes cruised to a 10-0 victory in five innings in game one before squeaking past the Highlanders in game two by the count of 1-0. Julie DiLonardo got victories in both ends of the doubleheader to give her 51 career victories and tie her with Ashley Archer for the school′s all-time mark.

The Golden Tornadoes managed just five hits in game one but took advantage of some defensive miscues to pile on the runs. Ashley Davis came up with an RBI single in the first inning to get Geneva on the board. An Ashley Ritchey double in the second inning plated two more runs to give the Golden Tornadoes a 4-0 lead. A five run fourth inning was highlighted by a two-run triple from Dana Schnitzel. Mackenzie Kemerer then knocked in Schnitzel with a run scoring double. DiLonardo went four shut-out innings allowing just two hits with five strikeouts. Andrea Hinds pitched a perfect fifth inning that included a pair of strikeouts.

Game two turned into a pitcher′s duel from the start. DiLonardo posted seven shut-out innings allowing just three hits and striking out seven. Geneva′s offense could generate nothing as the game went into the bottom of the 6th scoreless. An Ashley Davis RBI single with two outs in the sixth proved to be the only offense Geneva would need. The Golden Tornadoes had just two hits in the game with both coming in the run scoring sixth inning.

Geneva will host Point Park University on Saturday at 1 pm in a non-conference doubleheader.
