Beaver Falls, PA - In most cases, a 23 run day would result in a pair of victories for the Geneva College baseball team. On Saturday, the Golden Tornadoes managed only a split against Houghton College as the Golden Tornadoes took three out of four from the Highlanders over the weekend. Geneva took game one on Saturday 16-13 and dropped the night cap 10-7. The split pushed Geneva′s overall record to 8-6.

Game one did not start well for Geneva as Houghton posted a five spot in the top of the first. Geneva got two back in the second inning highlighted by an RBI single from Jon Bushmire. Two more runs came across in the third inning on a two-run base hit from Jeremy Herzog. Geneva took its first lead of the game with three runs in the fourth inning. An RBI single from Joel Gatti and a sacrifice fly from T.J. Lambert gave Geneva the lead. The Golden Tornadoes seemingly opened things up with seven more runs in the fifth inning. Tyler Damazo, Joel Gatti and Mike Suluva each had RBI singles in the frame. Houghton tried to come back with five runs in the seventh inning but came up short. Tad Forsythe went 5 1/3 innings to earn the victory despite allowing six earned runs. Cody Holbrook came on to record the final out to pick up his first collegiate save.

Geneva spotted Houghton a run in the first to open game two. The Highlanders posted another tally in the third before the Golden Tornadoes responded with two runs of their own. Ryan McGonigle provided an RBI single in the frame to cut the lead to one. Houghton scored four in the fourth and two more in the fifth and sixth inning making things very difficult for Geneva. The Golden Tornadoes scored three in the fifth on an RBI single from Bushmire and a bases loaded walk to Jeremy Herzog. Geneva tried to make another miraculous comeback in the seventh inning but came up short.

The Golden Tornadoes will host Penn State Beaver in a single game on Wednesday before facing off against Saint Vincent in a three-game series next weekend.
