Grove City, PA - Just three days after the Geneva College throwers took center stage at the season opening meet at Muskingum, it was the group of Golden Tornadoes′ sprinters that shined at the Grove City College Mini.

Perhaps the highlight of the day came in the men′s 4 x 100 meter relay that featured the Geneva men′s team taking home first place and finishing just 0.02 seconds behind the all-time school record. The team comprised of Nick Agostinelli, Josh Guiser, John-Henry Jarwood and Wes Marquis turned in a time of 43.37 to finish more than a second ahead of second place Grove City. Agostinelli and Jarwood took care of things on an individual basis as well as both sprinters qualified for the NCCAA national meet in the 100 meter event with second and third place finishes respectively. Teammate Stephen Polite finished fourth in the 100 meter race and also qualified nationally. Josh Guiser was also busy finishing fourth in the 200 meter race and third overall in the 400 meter event. Middle distance runners Nick Edinger (4th in the 1500) and Owen Struck (4th in the 3000) each had solid outings.

In the throwing events, Geneva′s men also had a promising showing. Tyler French, who had already qualified nationally in the shot put, threw his discus hat in the ring to qualify with 40.28 meter toss that was good enough for first place. Teammate Matt Logan finished second in the discus with a distance of 35.81 meters. French also won the shot put event with teammate Rick Truesdell finishing third with a national qualifying toss of 12.87 meters.

Geneva′s women had just two athletes qualify for the NCCAA meet on Tuesday. Liz Michalak′s long jump of 4.92 meters was good enough for second place overall and a trip to the NCCAA national meet. In other highlights for the women, Jamie Mahan and Jakayla Anderson finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 200 meter race. Michalak took home third place in the 400 meter event. In distance events, Shannon Rech finished fifth in the 1500 meter event with Alayna Merkle and Emily Hoobler were third and fourth in the 3000 meter event. Geneva′s women throwers were on point again on Tuesday with solid efforts across the board. Kathryn Regalado won the shot put event with a distance of 11.85 meters. Kathrine Michalak was in the rear view mirror with a toss of 11.78 meters for second place. Mary Keen finished third in the discus with Regalado posting a fourth place slot.

The only other female to qualify for the NCCAA nationals was Tori Trapanick in the javelin. Trapanick finished fourth overall with a distance of 29.93 meters.

The Golden Tornadoes are back in action on Saturday at Wheeling Jesuit.
