Beaver Falls, PA - In the first week of eligibility, a Geneva College track and field student-athlete was honored with a performer of the week award. Senior Liz Michalak received the honor after her work at the Grove City College meet and a Wheeling Jesuit. Prior to this year, Geneva student-athletes were not eligible for weekly awards through the PAC because of its Division III provisional status. That all changed this week with Michalak running, jumping and throwing her way to the top.

Last Tuesday, Michalak finished second in the long jump event at Grove City. That effort was good enough to qualify her for the NCCAA national track and field meet in May. Three days later, Michalak began competing in the heptathlon at Wheeling Jesuit. The two-day event, consisting of seven events was dominated by the senior from Ashville, NY. Michalak finished in the top five in all seven events and finished the competition with 3726 points, which was more than 100 better than the next closest competitor. Michalak is now qualified in a pair of events for the NCCAA national next month.

Geneva′s track and field team will be back in action against PAC competition this Saturday when it travels to Washington & Jefferson. The Golden Tornadoes will be this year′s host for the PAC Championships which will take place at the Merriman Athletic Complex on April 27-28.
