Beaver Falls, PA - The wait is finally over for the Geneva College softball team. For the past four years, the Golden Tornadoes have been playing opponents in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference but because of its provisional status, none of those games counted in the conference standings. The Geneva softball team is the last Golden Tornadoes′ program to finally get started in the PAC. On Saturday, the wait became well worth it as Geneva swept a doubleheader from Waynesburg by scores of 3-2 and 15-5 with the night cap ending after just five innings.

Waynesburg opened the scoring in game one with a run in the top of the first but the Golden Tornadoes quickly responded with a run in the bottom of the inning. Ashley Davis′ RBI single in the first tied the score. Julie DiLonardo′s RBI double in the third inning gave Geneva its first lead by the Yellow Jackets tied the game with a run in the fourth. Davis struck again in the fourth inning with an RBI base hit that would prove to be the game winner. Geneva had nine hits in game one including two by Davis and Mackenzie Kemerer. DiLonardo went the distance for the victory. She allowed one earned run on four hits. She struck out 13 in the victory.

Game two featured a Geneva offense breaking out to the tune of 13 hits. The Golden Tornadoes posted a season high 15 runs in the victory. Christina Fuqua and Davis each had RBI singles in a three-run first inning to get Geneva′s offense rolling. The Golden Tornadoes broke the game open with nine runs in the third inning. Lori Deem and Kemerer each had RBI doubles in the inning with Fuqua and Davis also knocking in runs during the rally. In fact, Deem and Fuqua each had a pair of hits in the inning. Fuqua ended the game with a perfect 4-4 while Davis and Deem each had two hits in the attack. DiLonardo went the first three innings and allowed a run on two hits while striking out a pair. Andrea Hinds pitched the final two innings and picked up her second victory of the season.

The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Saint Vincent on Tuesday for a doubleheader before returning home next Thursday for two against Grove City at 3:30 pm.
