Fort Pierce, FL - The Geneva College baseball team opened the 2012 season with a pair of victories over Martin Luther College. The Golden Tornadoes took game one 6-3 and finished off the sweep with a 3-0 victory in the night cap.

Caleb Kilgore picked up the victory in game one with a solid six inning effort. Kilgore allowed just five singles and two earned runs in the win. Mike Jeffreys closed out the game with the first of two saves on the day with a scoreless seventh inning. Geneva got off and running early with a three-spot in the first inning. A double by Mike Suluva and an RBI triple from Adam Scheiderer highlighted the early offense. Joel Gatti knocked in a pair on a double in the sixth inning and Noah Medich added some insurance with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. Medich and Scheiderer each had a pair of hits and a pair of RBI′s in the game one victory.

The Golden Tornadoes got more solid pitching in game two as Tad Forsythe went six innings shut-out innings and allowed just three hits while striking out three before Jeffreys again tossed a scoreless seventh inning for his second save of the day. Joel Gatti was Geneva′s only player to pick up a pair of hits while Jon Bushmire′s RBI ground out in the first inning would be all the offense Geneva would need in opening the season at 2-0.

The Golden Tornadoes get back to work on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Marywood at 10 am.
