Fort Myers, FL - With expectations high for the Geneva College softball team as it moves into its first season as a full member of the Presidents′ Athletic Conference and NCAA Division III, the Golden Tornadoes opened the 2012 season but their offense didn′t get the message. Geneva dropped a pair of games on Monday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic to open the new season. The Golden Tornadoes fell 4-0 to Worcester Polytechnical Institute before dropping a 4-1 decision to Kenyon.

The Golden Tornadoes managed only four hits in game one with three of those coming off of the bat of Ashley Davis who was a perfect 3-3 in the season opener. Only a Mackenzie Kemerer fourth inning double supplied the rest of game one′s offensive output. Meanwhile, WPI posted two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings for all of the offense it would need. Julie DiLonardo was saddled with the loss after pitching five innings. DiLonardo struck out five and walked four in the curtain raiser.

Game two started much more promising with Martha Adams leading off the first inning with a solo home run. Unfortunately, it was Geneva′s only run of the day. The Golden Tornadoes posted six hits in the night cap coming from six different players. DiLonardo picked up the loss in game two after allowing just two earned runs on 11 hits in a complete game effort.

The Golden Tornadoes will get right back to work on Tuesday with games against Rochester Institute of Technology and Rockford.
