Fort Myers, FL - It took a few games for the Geneva College softball team to find its offense but in the second game of two on Tuesday, the Golden Tornadoes exploded at the plate to earn a split on the day. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a 2-1 decision to Rochester Institute of Technology to open the day before pounding out a 10-1 victory against Rockford in the night cap. The split moved Geneva′s early season record to 1-3.

Julie DiLonardo was impressive in the circle in game one despite picking up her third straight loss. She pitched a complete game and allowed just one earned run in the loss. She struck out eight and walked only two batters. RIT took the lead with an unearned run in the second and then extended its lead on a solo homer in the top of the sixth. Geneva cut the lead to one with a run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double from Christina Fuqua. The Golden Tornadoes left the bases loaded in the sixth before coming up with the tying run. Geneva had just three hits in game one including one each from Fuqua, Martha Adams and DiLonardo.

Freshman Andrea Hinds started game two and posted a pair of shut-out innings before running into trouble in the third. After allowing a run and loading the bases, DiLonardo came on to strike out a pair of hitters and went on to close the door the rest of the way for her first victory of the season. In a game that was ended after five innings for the mercy rule, DiLonardo pitched 2 1/3 innings and struck out five. Geneva′s offense finally got going in game two. Adams put Geneva up 3-0 in the second with a three-run home run, the second homer in as many days for Adams. The Golden Tornadoes put up a five-spot in the third highlighted by RBI his from Michelle Barr, Adams and Rachel Lee. The scoring was capped off in the fifth on a two-run blast from DiLonardo. Geneva had 14 hits in game two including multiple hit efforts from Adams, Lee, Ashley Davis and Barr.

Geneva will face Wilmington and Clark Colleges on Wednesday morning.
