FT. MYERS, FL - The Geneva College softball team split a pair of games on its final day in Florida. The Golden Tornadoes split two games on Monday and split its first 12 games of the season heading home with an overall record of 6-6.

On Monday, the Golden Tornadoes were in position to win the first game of the day but St. Mary′s College found its bats in the final innings and rallied past the Golden Tornadoes 8-3. Geneva held on to take game two over Stevens Institute by the count of 2-1.

Geneva opened the scoring in game one on Christina Fuqua′s inside-the-park home run. A line drive down the left field line resulted in the left fielder toppling over the fence while Fuqua circled the bases for her first home run of the years. The Golden Tornadoes and Julie DiLonardo tried to make those two runs stand up and they did for most of the game. DiLonardo cruised through the first four innings extending her scoreless innings streak to 17 straight. In the top of the fifth, St. Mary′s posted a run after two outs to close the gap to just one. They broke things open with four runs on four hits in the sixth. Trailing 5-2, Geneva tried to crawl back into the game with a DiLonardo RBI single in the sixth. St. Mary′s went back to work with three more runs in the seventh. Geneva had six hits in game one including two each from Fuqua and Ashley Ritchey.

DiLonardo made Geneva′s two runs hold up in the night cap. Going the distance once again, DILonardo allowed eight hits and one earned run to pick up her fifth victory of the season and pull to within just two victories of Geneva′s all-time record. DiLonardo also got things done with the bat with RBI singles in the first and third innings. Geneva had six more hits in game two with DiLonardo and Ritchey each picking up a pair.

Geneva heads home to prepare for the home opener on Friday when it hosts Houghton College at 3pm in a doubleheader.
