Latrobe, PA - When a team yields just three runs in 15 innings of a doubleheader, it would seem more times than not that team would have a great chance to sweep that doubleheader. At the very least a split would be in order. On Tuesday, the Geneva College softball team and senior hurler Julie DiLonardo gave up just three runs but that was enough to cost the Golden Tornadoes a sweep by the Bearcats. Saint Vincent won the first game 1-0 in eight innings and rallied for a 2-1 victory in the night cap. The losses dropped Geneva to 14-12 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Neither team could solve the opposing pitcher for seven innings of game one. Geneva managed just four hits in the first game but was never able to dent the scoreboard. With the game scoreless into the eighth, Saint Vincent finally managed to post a run on the board. Geneva left a runner on second base to end the game which completed a trend of not getting hits with runners in scoring position. The Golden Tornadoes were 0-7 with runners in scoring position in game one. Martha Adams reached base in three of her four plate appearances and Christina Fuqua had two of Geneva′s three hits including a third inning triple but none of those hits managed to generate any offense. DiLonardo took the hard luck loss despite striking out ten and allowing just four hits.

DiLonardo scattered eight hits in the night cap and once again kept Saint Vincent off the board through the first six innings. In the top of the sixth, Geneva managed to generate its only run of the game when Adams scored thanks to a Saint Vincent error. Geneva held its 1-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh when with one out the Bearcats tied the game on an RBI double and then won it with a walk-off double one out later. DiLonardo struck out three in game two as she dropped another hard luck decision. Geneva′s offense did very little in game two with just a pair of hits.

The Golden Tornadoes will try to put the sweep behind them quickly as they welcome Grove City to College Hill on Thursday for a doubleheader at 3:30 pm.
