Everyone in the mood for food, music, games and fireworks is invited to attend the fourth annual Beaver Falls Community Crime Watch Day, a fun and educational event hosted by the Beaver Falls community on Geneva College′s campus. The outdoor festivities take place on Saturday, July 28, 2012 beginning at 6 p.m.

The non-profit, public-spirited event is packed with activities. Children will enjoy crafts supervised by the Center for Creative Arts Expression, face painting, balloon artist Tom Chidester and various prize- laden “Penny Carnival” games. A “Minute to Win It!” tournament will be held for all ages. Provided by the Beaver Falls Football Club, hot dogs, hamburgers, slushies and assorted beverages add to the carnival feel. Also, McGruff the crime dog will make a guest appearance.

Music will be presented throughout the day by DJ Tumas. Free tours of Geneva College will also be provided. And the event′s grand finale will be a stunning Zambelli fireworks display beginning around 9:45 p.m.

Demonstrations will be shown to inform event attendees about small fire extinguishing. A drug dog, a police taser gun and a bomb robot will also be exhibited. Even more hands-on interaction is encouraged with the military vehicles, fire trucks and rescue vehicles that will be present. A STAT Medevac chopper, too, will make a landing.

Services provided include child identification kits and Neighborhood Watch information. Representatives from community service organizations such as Beaver Falls Forever (BFF) and the Ford Foundation will attend.

Local and state police officers, local firemen, city council members, members of the District Attorney's Office and military recruitment officers will all be present to interact with the Beaver Falls community.

Community Crime Watch Day was inspired by “National Night Out,” which falls under the Neighborhood Watch umbrella. The Beaver Falls Police Department liked the concept of interacting with the community, but wanted the freedom to involve more local community support, which is why Community Crime Watch Day was established in 2009.

This support has helped the Community Crime Watch Day grow. Sponsors for the event this year include the recently formed “Remix” group, the senior Business Communications Class at Beaver Falls High School, together with Shawn Thomas′ ‘Uniting Spirits of Beaver Falls′ ministry, BFF and the Second Baptist Church ‘Girlfriends′ youth group.
