Beaver Falls, PA – Players and coaches from the Presidents′ Athletic Conference made their annual trek to Saint Vincent College last Thursday for football media day. Following a question and answer segment with a player and head coach from each of the PAC′s nine schools, media members, coaches and sports information director′s conducted the pre-season poll that to nobody′s surprise featured four-time defending conference champion Thomas More at the top.
The Golden Tornadoes, who are coming off a 4-6 overall record and a 4-4 mark within the Presidents′ Athletic Conference in 2011, received 105 points and were chosen to finish sixth in the pre-season poll. Thomas More received 23 of the 25 available first place votes to top the chart with 223 points. Washington & Jefferson (188 pts) was selected to finish second with Waynesburg (165 pts.) picking up the other two first-place votes finishing third.
“We are very much looking forward to the 2012 season,” said Geneva head coach Geno DeMarco. DeMarco, who is entering his 20th season at the helm, will look to rebound from only the third losing season of his career. “We are all anxious to put last year behind us and move forward. We feel like we still have a lot to prove to the rest of the conference.”
Geneva opens the 2012 campaign with three consecutive road games beginning at Frostburg State on September 1st. The Golden Tornadoes open their home schedule against defending conference champion Thomas More on September 29th.
