Canton, OH - For the second consecutive fall season, the Geneva College women′s tennis team had the distinction of opening up the athletic campaign. On Thursday night, the Golden Tornadoes dropped an 8-1 decision at NCAA Division II Malone University to start the 2012 fall season. Geneva finished the 2011 season with a 5-7 overall record that included a 5-4 mark in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference but Geneva ran into a buzz saw on this day.

The match opened with three consecutive losses in doubles play as Geneva managed just two games in the three matches. In singles action, it was junior Alison Beattie who took home top honors with the only victory of the day. Beattie had to go the extra mile to pick up the victory in number five singles. She picked up a 7-5 victory in the first set before dropping set two 6-2. In the tie-breaker, Beattie prevailed by the count of 10-8 giving Geneva its first singles victory of the year and only point of the match.

Geneva will dive right into conference play this weekend as it hosts Chatham University on Saturday morning at 11 am at Beaver Falls High School.
