Geneva College and the Golden Tornadoes athletic department are entering their second season as a full member of NCAA Division III and the Presidents′ Athletic Conference. Being a member of the NCAA has its advantages and Geneva College has taken advantage of one of those by being awarded an Ethnic Minority and Women′s Internship Grant from the NCAA beginning in the fall of 2012. The grant calls for Division III institutions or conferences to receive $23,100 in each of a two year stint to give an ethnic minority and/or female the opportunity for learning in administration and coaching.

Geneva College used its grant to add Ashley Dupler to the athletic staff and specifically to the women′s basketball staff as an assistant coach under second year head coach Lori Wynn. Dupler, a graduate of Houghton College in 2011, had a stellar collegiate career. The four-year starter was a two-time American Mideast Conference first team selection while ending her career as the school′s all-time leader in blocked shots. Dupler scored 1542 career points while grabbing 902 rebounds.

Following her graduation, Dupler spent the 2011-12 basketball season as the varsity and junior varsity assistant coach at Jamestown High School in New York State. “Ashley will be a great addition to our program,” said Wynn. “She has experienced great success in her playing career and has a passion for the game and a passion for coaching. We are very excited to have her join us.”

NCAA Division III strives to be a dynamic and engaging group of institutions and conferences of varying sizes and missions, committed to an environment that encourages and supports diversity and inclusion, values fairness and equity, and places the highest priority on the overall educational experiences of the student-athlete. “The NCAA Division III internship grant gives Geneva College a great opportunity to bring someone into our department that has a true desire to have a career in athletics,” said Geneva College athletic director Dr. Kim Gall. “We are very grateful to the NCAA for providing an opportunity for young people to begin a career in athletics, both in administration and coaching.”
