Pittsburgh, PA - Geneva and Chatham opened their PAC opener in Beaver Falls on Saturday. The two teams were forced to complete their match on Tuesday in Pittsburgh when Saturday′s match was interrupted by thunderstorms. The wait turned out to be worth it for the Golden Tornadoes as they held off the Cougars 5-4 for a victory in the 2012 Presidents′ Athletic Conference opener.

The Golden Tornadoes took a 4-2 lead into the match conclusion on Tuesday and had to win just one of the remaining three matches to pick up the victory. That task turned out to be a little more difficult than hoped for as Geneva dropped two of those three matches but it was the straight set victory from Darcie Shaffer that proved to be the difference. On Saturday, Julie Kline and Christine Bullock each won straight set matches to put Geneva in place for the win after taking two of three in doubles action before the rains came and forced both teams off the court.

Geneva, which opened its season on Thursday by dropping an 8-1 decision to NCAA Division II Malone, hung on for its first conference victory of the season. Geneva will head back to Pittsburgh on Friday for a match against LaRoche before getting back into PAC play on Saturday at home against Washington & Jefferson at 1 pm at Brady′s Run Park.
