Pittsburgh, PA - The Geneva College women′s soccer team has cornered the market on 2-1 final scores. Each of the first three matches of the 2012 season have ended with an identical 2-1 score. After splitting the first two matches of the year, Wednesday night′s 2-1 final went the way of Point Park University.

The Pioneers clearly had the better of the play in the first half by out shooting Geneva 10-1 with the only two goals of the first 45 minutes finding their way into the back of Geneva′s net. The Pioneers fired seven shots at freshman goalkeeper Anna McMullen in the first half and two of those shots got through. Point Park opened the scoring in the 32nd minute on a Jillian Evilsizer goal. Just three minutes later, the Pioneers struck again on a tally from Leeza Marie Tokarski.

Geneva played a much more spirited match in the second half with a 6-4 shot advantage over Point Park. While the Golden Tornadoes kept Point Park off the board in the second stanza, freshman Heidi Mann scored her fourth goal of the early season to cut the lead in half with just over seven minutes left in regulation. Geneva was unable to get the equalizer in the final moments and fell to 1-2 in the early season. Mann has scored all four goals for Geneva thus far in 2012. McMullen made seven saves in the loss for her best effort of the season.

Geneva will get some time away from the field before getting back to action next Monday when it travels to LaRoche College. The Golden Tornadoes return home on September 12th for a 4:30 pm kickoff against Carlow University.
