Hiram, OH - So far so good for the defending PAC volleyball champions from Geneva College. The Golden Tornadoes remained perfect in 2012 with a pair of victories on the first night of the Hiram College Tournament. Geneva defeated Frostburg State 3-1 by scores of 25-15, 25-15, 24-26, 25-7 before taking care of Carnegie Mellon 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-20, 25-22. With the sweep, Geneva improved to 7-0 on the season for the best start by a Geneva team during the Wendy Smith and Curt Conser coaching era.

The evening began with Geneva cruising to a pair of wins in games one and two against Frostburg State. After dropping game three, the Golden Tornadoes exploded for their second 25-7 set victory of the season. Deanna Briody, who didn′t play in game three, finished the match with a team best 36 assists to lead the way. Paige Banyas led the defense with 19 digs while Kristland McCracken led a foursome of players with double digit kills with 17 for the match. Ashley Davis added 11 kills, Rachel Netherland and Maggie Bowersox each finished with ten throw downs.

In the night cap, Bowersox made her presence felt at the net on defense with a season best six blocks in the match. Briody equaled her first match performance with 36 more assists while Ashley Davis ended the evening with a 15 kill performance to lead the offense.

The Golden Tornadoes will get right back on the court on Saturday when they face Capital at 1 pm and then will battle host Hiram in the tournament finale at 3 pm. Geneva will finally make its first appearance at home next Wednesday when it welcomes Waynesburg University to Metheny Fieldhouse for a 7 pm match. Geneva gets back into conference play on Tuesday with matches at Chatham University against the Cougars and Washington & Jefferson.
