Pittsburgh, PA - Although Geneva College women′s soccer team won its second match of the year, it was a day of firsts for the Golden Tornadoes. Geneva′s women picked up their first road victory of the season with a 2-0 decision at LaRoche College. Freshman goalkeeper Anna McMullen registered her first collegiate shut-out while the Golden Tornadoes got their first goal of the season from somebody not named Heidi Mann.

It was, however, Mann that broke a scoreless tie in the 15th minute of play. The goal was the fifth of the season for the freshman as she became the first women′s player in school history to score at least one goal in the first four games of her career. Geneva took its 1-0 lead into the halftime break after controlling the game and the stat sheet by out shooting the Redhawks 9-3 in the first 45 minutes.

The Golden Tornadoes seized control of the match when Cindy George found the back of the net just three minutes into the second half. In what was an evenly played second half, Geneva′s defense locked down and was able to secure the victory and first shut-out of the season.

Geneva will head home to host Carlow University on Wednesday at 4:30 pm in the only other action for the week.
