Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva College men′s soccer head coach Gary Dunda has not shied away from any tough competition in his three years at the helm. On Wednesday night, Dunda and the Golden Tornadoes welcomed eighth ranked Carnegie Mellon University to Merriman Athletic Complex. CMU has already defeated three top 25 teams and on Wednesday night handed Geneva a 2-0 setback. The Golden Tornadoes dropped back to 3-3 while CMU improved to 4-1 in non-conference action.
CMU dominated the statistical sheet and most of the match. The Tartans out shot Geneva to the tune of 15-5 for the game including a 10-0 advantage in the first half. CMU scored the game′s first goal just four minutes into the action when Max Tassano scored off of a corner kick. Bryan Butler kept Geneva in the match with five saves in the first half and seven for the game. CMU, however, added an insurance goal in the 58th minute off of the foot of Scott Gerfen to lengthen the lead.
Geneva played a much stronger second half and had several scoring opportunities in the closing minutes but could not beat CMU goalkeeper Christopher Madden, who posted the shut-out with a pair of saves.
Geneva will play its third home game of the week on Saturday night when it hosts Lycoming College at Merriman Complex at 7 pm.
