Beaver Falls, PA - When the 2012 Geneva College men′s soccer season was set to begin, head coach Gary Dunda made things very clear that he was looking for some of his freshmen to make immediate contributions. On Saturday night, Daniel Cox made one of the biggest by a freshman in the early season. Cox′s second half goal proved to be the equalizer in a 1-1 double overtime tie with Lycoming College. The tie pushed Geneva′s record to 3-3-1 while Lycoming moved to 2-1-1.

Saturday′s match was almost a tail of two separate halves. Lycoming controlled most of the action in the first 45 minutes and out shot Geneva 5-4 in the first stanza. The Warriors also got the only goal of the half on a beautiful strike from 25 yards out off of the foot of Charlie Vess. Vess′ team leading fourth goal of the season came in the 33rd minute and nearly proved to be the difference in the match until Cox evened things in the second half.

After a flurry of activity in front of the Lycoming net, a rebound found the foot of Cox who calmly deposited the ball into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal. Geneva had several scoring opportunities down the stretch in regulation and in overtime but could not find the game winner. The match ended with Geneva out shooting Lycoming 16-10 with James Quinn turning away five shots for Lycoming and Bryan Butler earning the tie with three saves in the match.

The Golden Tornadoes will head to Franciscan on Wednesday and national powerhouse Messiah next Saturday. Geneva will not return to Merriman Complex until October 3rd for a date with Saint Vincent at 7:30 pm.
