Washington D.C. - The Geneva College volleyball team spent all day Thursday taking in the sights of our nation′s capital. On Friday, the Golden Tornadoes got back to business with a pair of matches on day one of the Galluadet Tournament. Geneva took care of business in the first match with a comeback 3-2 victory over Washington & Lee. The Golden Tornadoes were unable to build off of that momentum and dropped a 3-1 decision to Messiah in a rematch from earlier in the season where it was Geneva the 3-1 victor. The split moved Geneva′s overall record to 13-5 with another pair of matches ahead on Saturday.

Against Washington & Lee, Geneva won in five sets by scores of 21-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 15-11. It was the hitting trio of Kristland McCracken (15 kills), Maggie Bowersox (14 kills) and Ashley Davis (13 kills) that led the offense. Bowersox chipped in with a team best four blocks in the victory while Deanna Briody finished with 20 digs and 42 assists.

Davis was the only Geneva player able to reach double digit kills in the night cap with 17. On defense, Paige Banyas led the way with 13 digs but it was too little too late as Geneva fell to Messiah in four sets by scores of 23-25, 17-25, 25-13, 13-25.

The Golden Tornadoes will get back to work bright and early on Saturday with a 10 am match against Shenendoah to complete pool play. The Golden Tornadoes will try to get themselves into the second pool game for a third place finish against an opponent to be determined. Geneva′s back in conference action on Tuesday when it visits Washington & Jefferson.
