Beaver Falls, PA - The defending conference champions had a an opportunity to hand conference leading Thomas More its first PAC loss on Saturday but the Golden Tornadoes were unable to get it done in a 3-1 loss to the Saints. Geneva managed to rebound quickly and salvage a split on the day as it cruised to a 3-0 victory over Grove City in the night cap. The split pushed Geneva′s overall record to 16-7 including a 7-3 mark in league play.

Geneva dropped its first match of the day in four sets to Thomas More by scores of 25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 25-19. The Golden Tornadoes managed a three set win over Grove City by scores of 25-20, 25-19, 25-20.

In the first match of the day, Ashley Davis led the offense with 11 kills while teammates Rachel Netherland, Maggie Bowersox and Kristland McCracken each finished with eight kills. Deanna Briody led Geneva with 41 assists while Davis also picked up a team best 22 digs in the loss to Thomas More. One of the highlights from match number one came between games one and two as senior Maggie Bowersox was honored for becoming the seventh player in school history to reach the 1000 kill plateau.

In the victory over Grove City, Davis led a trio of Geneva players who finished with double digit kills. Davis picked up 16 kills while Bowersox finished with 12 kills and McCracken ended up with 11. Alex Baughman led the defense with 16 digs while Briody matched her first match total with another 41 assist effort.

The Golden Tornadoes will host Chatham on Tuesday night at 7 pm before heading to Waynesburg next Thursday.
