Beaver Falls, PA - The hope for the Geneva women′s soccer team in 2012 was to greatly improve upon a sub-par season in 2011. The Golden Tornadoes are doing just that 12 matches into the season as they matched the 2011 win total overall and within the Presidents′ Athletic Conference with a 2-0 decision over Westminster on Saturday night. Geneva improved to 6-5-1 overall and 2-1 in league play matching both win totals for all of last year.

Geneva jumped all over Westminster early in the match and then made their lead stand up for the rest of the night. It took just nine minutes for the Golden Tornadoes to draw first blood as Maura Allen′s scoring touch continued with her fourth goal of the season when she found a loose ball in the box and put Geneva on top.

Just two minutes later the Golden Tornadoes doubled their advantage of Rhetta King′s second goal of the season off of a Geneva corner kick. The two goals would be all Geneva and freshman goalkeeper Anna McMullen would need as she posted her fifth shut-out of the season in making three saves. McMullen won her sixth match of the season in net and her second consecutive conference shut-out after blanking Saint Vincent 3-0 on Wednesday.

Geneva will try to maintain its momentum on Wednesday when it travels to Bethany for a 7:30 pm match. The Golden Tornadoes return home next Saturday to host Thomas More at 3:30 pm.
