Bethany, WV - Coming off an impressive 3-1 victory at Westminster on Saturday night, the Geneva College men′s soccer team seemed to be hitting its mid-season stride. Taking an unbeaten conference record into Bethany on Tuesday, the Golden Tornadoes can no longer make that claim as the Bison shocked Geneva by the score of 3-2. The loss dropped Geneva back to 6-5-2 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play while the Bison improved to 2-1 in the league.
Sophomore goalkeeper Bryan Butler was pressed into some serious action as he was asked to make 11 saves to keep Geneva in the game. The Bison totaled 14 shots on goal while Geneva managed to put just four shots on the net. One of those shots came 15 minutes into the game when Jeb Nash opened the scoring for Geneva on a penalty kick. Less than one minute later, Bethany′s Arkangelo James scored his 11th goal of the season to tie the score for the Bison. James was far from finished as he would find the net on all three Bethany goals in the game. James would score again just six minutes later to give Bethany its first lead of the match.
Trailing by one coming into the second half, it took just 59 seconds for Geneva to tie the game when Garrett Masters connected on an assist from Teddy Krzywiecki, the most recent PAC player of the week.
The game remained tied at two throughout the second half but it was once again James that proved to be the difference when he posted an unassisted goal with less than five minutes remaining in regulation.
Geneva will return home on Saturday evening for a rematch of the 2011 PAC championship game when Thomas More College comes calling to College Hill.
