Waynesburg, PA - The men′s soccer match at Waynesburg University on Wednesday night seemed to heavily favor Geneva College on paper. Of course, the games aren′t played on paper and the Golden Tornadoes found the sledding much more difficult than anticipated. It took a late header goal from Teddy Krzywiecki to break a scoreless tie and get the Golden Tornadoes off and running to a 2-0 victory over the Yellow Jackets. The victory comes on the heels of an impressive 1-0 win against defending PAC champion Thomas More and puts the Golden Tornadoes in a great position to control their own destination for a regular season PAC title. The victory pushed Geneva′s overall record to 8-5-2 with a 4-1-1 mark in the PAC. With three matches remaining in the regular season, Geneva could grab the top seed in the PAC tournament by the end of next week.

While Geneva dominated the play for most of the night, it wasn′t until Krzywiecki headed a cross from Jon Mathoslah into the net in the 74th minute that Geneva could exhale. Keenan Barr added some insurance in the 79th minute with an assist going to Daniel Cox. Despite out shooting Waynesburg 9-0 in the first half and 17-1 for the match, Geneva needed those late goals to pick up the win.

Sophomore goalkeeper Bryan Butler was not tested much on Wednesday but walked away with his sixth shut-out of the season and eighth win of the year.

Geneva will host a very good Grove City team on homecoming this Saturday at 1 pm for what could determine the top seed in the PAC post-season tournament. Next week, Geneva closes out the regular season with a home match against Thiel at 7:30 pm.
