Beaver Falls, PA - In what was the last home soccer match for seniors Maura Allen and Risa Tillman, the Geneva College women′s soccer team made sure it wasn′t the senior duos last soccer game ever. The Golden Tornadoes needed a victory on Saturday to ensure a .500 season and remain eligible for NCCAA post-season. The Golden Tornadoes got the victory in the form of a 4-1 win over Thiel College. The victory pushed Geneva′s overall record to 9-8-1 including a 5-4 mark in the PAC. As a result, the Golden Tornadoes are eligible to participate in the NCCAA East regional tournament that could take place as early as next weekend.

The victory and the .500 regular season seemed to be in doubt early as the Golden Tornadoes spotted Thiel the game′s first goal 18 minutes into the match. Nine minutes later, Heidi Mann continued her impressive freshman season with her team leading 16th goal of the season. Mann took it upon herself to give Geneva its first lead of the match when she drilled a shot from 25 yards out that hit the cross bar and bounced into the cage for her second of the game and 17th of the season. The on-slaught continued when Maura Allen took a feed from Elise Mann and celebrated senior day with her seventh goal of the game just two minutes later. Geneva took that 3-1 lead into the locker room and would never look back.

The only goal of the second half came in the 66th minute when Elise Mann found the net after a perfect lead pass from Allen. Allen and fellow senior Risa Tillman were recognized before the game and certainly enjoyed their last game on College Hill. Freshman goalkeeper Anna McMullen allowed the one goal but picked up her ninth victory of the season.

Final details of the NCCAA East regional tournament will be ironed out in the next few days but it is likely Geneva will head to Houghton College next weekend for a four-team tournament that will determine the regional champion and will provide an automatic bid to the NCCAA national tournament.
