Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva College and Grove City hooked up for the second time this season in men′s soccer. The first time resulted in a 0-0 double overtime tie. On Wednesday night, the stakes were higher in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference semi-finals. The results, however, were eerily similar as the two teams battled to another 0-0 double overtime tie. The difference this time around is that they had to go to penalty kicks to decide the outcome and it was Geneva coming out on top 8-7 after nine rounds of kicks. The victory was the 10th of the year for Geneva and pushed it into the PAC finals at Thomas More for the second consecutive season.

Geneva goalkeeper Bryan Butler and Grove City goalkeeper Brenden Alery hooked up in an epic battle for 110 minutes and penalty kicks. When the dust settled, it was the Butler that did it in picking up the victory. But not only was it Bryan Butler that helped lead Geneva, it was older brother Robert Butler that put the finishing touches on the Wolverines.

Grove City got the better of the play in regulation and out shot Geneva 22-11 for the match. In overtime, it was the offense′s that went to work. In the first eight rounds of penalty kicks, each team capitalized on seven. In the ninth and deciding round, Grove City missed its opportunity before the elder Butler stepped up and buried the ball into the lower right corner of the net sending Geneva into a frenzy and into the PAC title game for the second consecutive year.

Bryan Butler made seven saves in the game and he also took advantage of his opportunity with a penalty kick goal of his own in round eight. So it was the Butler boys who scored the final two goals in penalty kicks to lift the Golden Tornadoes.

Geneva will face Thomas More on Saturday for a chance to redeem last year′s 3-2 loss. The Golden Tornadoes did hand the Saints their only PAC loss of the year in Beaver Falls three weeks ago. The winner of the PAC tournament will advance to the NCAA Division III regional tournament.
