Rev. Dr. Soong-Chan Rah, author of The Next Evangelicalism: Freeing the Church from Western Cultural Captivity and Many Colors: Cultural Intelligence for a Changing Church, will visit Geneva College on Wednesday, October 17. He will speak during chapel in Metheny Fieldhouse at 10:10 a.m.
In The Next Evangelicalism, Dr. Rah calls the North American church to embrace a new evangelicalism that is diverse and multiethnic
. While some churches may be ill-equipped for today's cultural context, many multiethnic churches are flourishing. In order for the church to grow and survive, he argues, those in power must recognize and look to other cultures for leadership, church structure and healing.
Many Colors is intended to equip evangelicals for ministry and outreach in our changing nation, which is currently undergoing the most rapid 
demographic shift in its history. Borrowing from the business concept of "cultural intelligence," Dr. Rah explores how Christians and the church can become more multiculturally adept.
Dr. Rah is a Milton B. Engebretson Assistant Professor of Church Growth and Evangelism at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL. He was formerly the founding Senior Pastor of the Cambridge Community Fellowship Church (CCFC), a multi-ethnic, urban ministry-focused church committed to living out the values of racial reconciliation and social justice in the urban setting. He was previously part of a church planting team in the Washington, DC area and has worked for years with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at MIT in Boston.
He is an active member on the board of Catalyst Leadership Center and Sojourners/Call to Renewal and has been a part of the Boston Ten-Point Coalition, which is an urban ministry working with at-risk youth. Dr. Rah is also a founding member of the Boston Fellowship of Asian-American Ministers.
Chapel is a weekly devotional time for the Geneva College community on Wednesdays from 10:10-11 a.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse. This time provides an opportunity for the campus to gather together to praise God, hear His word, and seek His favor and direction. Attendance is required for students and the entire campus community is encouraged to participate.
In addition to speaking in chapel, Dr. Rah will be spending time throughout the day with members of the faculty, student development staff and GC Life student leaders.
