Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College women′s basketball team was seeking its first conference victory of the season on Saturday afternoon as it hosted Grove City College. Second half shooting woes proved costly in the 61-52 Grove City decision. The Golden Tornadoes dropped to 2-11 overall and 0-6 in the PAC while the Wolverines improved to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in league play.

Both teams shot the ball well in the first half as the Golden Tornadoes posted a 44% mark from the field including 3-6 from three-point range. Grove City knocked down six treys in the first 20 minutes to take a 30-25 lead into the break. Geneva staggered out of the box in the second half and scored just four points in the first seven minutes allowing Grove City to extend its lead to 41-29 with just over 13 minutes left in regulation. Grove City would lead by as many as 19 points on three separate occasions before Geneva made a late run to score 11 of the last 13 points of the game.

Heidi Mann led Geneva′s offense with her third 20+ scoring performance in the last four games. Mann posted 23 points on 6-10 shooting from the field. Chelsea Kauffman returned to the Geneva line-up after missing the last nine because of injury to score ten points off the bench including a perfect 6-6 from the foul line. Grove City′s Mary McDonald scored 19 points and grabbed nine boards to lead the Wolverines while teammate Leah Gibson posted 18 points including four three-point field goals.

Geneva will head to the road for three straight conference games beginning with a date against Saint Vincent on Wednesday night. The Golden Tornadoes return home on January 19th to face Thiel College at 1 pm.
