Beaver Falls, PA - Something has happened to the Geneva College men′s basketball team as it emerged from the halftime break in each of the past two games. Three days after watching a five-point halftime lead disappear against Thomas More; Geneva saw its 30-27 halftime advantage quickly evaporate as Grove City held on for a 77-68 victory at the end of the day. The loss dropped Geneva to 1-12 on the season including a 1-4 mark in the PAC. Meanwhile, Grove City improved to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in league play.
Geneva shot 46% from the field in the first half and led by as many as five before settling for a three-point halftime lead. Grove City opened the second half on a 22-7 run in the first seven minutes to open up a 49-35 lead. With 8:19 left in the second half, Keynon Jackson′s lay-up cut the lead to seven points at 58-51 but Grove City scored the next nine points to re-establish a 16 point advantage. The Golden Tornadoes tried to rally late as Grove City struggled from the foul line by connecting on just 14-32 in the second half but they could only pull within six points in the final minute before falling by nine.
Keynon Jackson led Geneva with 17 points with Matt Lorello adding 15 points. Jacob Jaros scored a season high 14 points on 5-7 shooting that included four three-point field goals. Jordan Harbison, who entered the game with a conference leading 54.4% from three-point range, finished with just six points and 2-9 from long range.
Geneva will have to turn things around away from home as it will hit the road for three straight conference games beginning with a date against Saint Vincent on Wednesday night. The Golden Tornadoes won′t return home on January 19th for a match-up with Thiel College at 3 pm.
