New Wilmington, PA - For 35 minutes at New Wilmington on Saturday afternoon, the Geneva College women′s basketball team seemed to be headed down a familiar path. Numerous turnovers and inconsistency from the field resulted in the Golden Tornadoes trailing host Westminster by 21 points heading down the stretch. Geneva turned its fortunes around with a late game rally that saw the Golden Tornadoes score 19 of the game′s final 23 points. The rally came up short in a 46-40 loss but Geneva certainly gave the Titans all they can handle in the second half. The loss kept Geneva from its first conference victory as the Golden Tornadoes fell to 2-13 overall and 0-8 in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.

Geneva scored 21 points in the first 31 minutes of the game and managed to post 19 points in the final nine. It was, however, the majority of the game the wound up costing Geneva a chance at the victory. Neither team did much early in the game as Geneva scored the only four points of the game through nearly the first five minutes of the first half. Geneva′s 4-0 lead would be it′s only of the game as Westminster went on a late first half run to push its halftime lead to 30-18.

Westminster pushed its biggest lead of the game to 21 points at 42-21 with just over nine minutes remaining in the game. The Golden Tornadoes scored the next nine points and ended on a 19-4 run. Chelsea D′Urso′s jumper at the 1:18 mark pulled Geneva to within four points at 44-40 but the Golden Tornadoes could not get any closer.

Geneva managed just five first half field goals and shot 19% from the floor in the first 20 minutes. The Golden Tornadoes finished the game at 25% including 3-9 from three-point range. Leaa Prisuta was Geneva′s only player in double figures with 13 points while also pulling down a team best nine rebounds.

The Golden Tornadoes will play the third of three straight road games on Wednesday night when they travel to Washington & Jefferson for a 6 pm tip-off. Geneva returns to Metheny Fieldhouse next Saturday for a 1 pm date with Thiel College.
