Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College women′s basketball team was looking for back to back wins for the first time this season. The Golden Tornadoes, who were coming off a victory over Bethany on Wednesday night, were unable to capture their second straight win as they dropped a 57-56 overtime decision to Chatham on Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped Geneva to 3-16 overall and 1-11 in the conference while Chatham, who swept the season series from Geneva, improved to 3-16 and 2-10 in the PAC.
The Cougars shot 46% from the field in the first half and took a 26-22 lead into the locker room. Geneva scored five of the first six points in the second half and tied the game at 27-27 with 15:10 remaining in regulation. The two teams tied six times in the second half as Geneva battled back to tie the game late in the second half. Chatham led by as many six points when it took a 44-38 lead with just over five minutes left. The Golden Tornadoes went on an 8-0 run to reclaim the lead capped by a Heidi Mann three-point field goal with 3:36 left to play.
With Chatham leading 50-48 in the final two minutes, Samantha Fisher′s lay-up with 1:50 to go tied the game at 50-50. Geneva had a chance to win the game in the final seconds but was unable to connect. A Geneva foul with 0.8 seconds left gave Chatham a chance to win the game at the line but a missed free throw sent the game into overtime. Geneva never led in the extra session but Mann′s jump shot with two seconds left rimmed out and Chatham held on for its third victory of the season.
Geneva was just 1-6 from the field in overtime and finished the game shooting 37% from the field. Chelsea D′Urso led all scorers with 17 points including a perfect 4-4 from the foul line. Mann and Leah Prisuta each added 11 points with Prisuta pulling down a team best 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Rachel McClain and Marguerite Sargent led Chatham with 11 points each.
Geneva will hit the road next week with a date against first-place Thomas More on Wednesday and a trip to Waynesburg next Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes return home on February 6th to take on Saint Vincent.
