Kissimmee, FL - It has been anything but easy for the Geneva College softball team in the first week of the 2013 season. The Golden Tornadoes were back under the Florida sun on Friday and came away with a doubleheader split that moved their overall record to 2-6. Geneva tried rally back against an early Muskingum lead but came up on the short end of a 7-5 decision. In game two, the Golden Tornadoes picked up a 9-5 victory over Concordia.

Geneva spotted Muskingum a 7-0 lead helped by a handful of Geneva miscues. The Golden Tornadoes took a big chunk out of the lead with a four run fourth inning. Samantha Johnson and Dayna Hicks each supplied RBI singles in the rally. A Leah Prisuta double plated another run in the fifth inning and Geneva put the tying runs on base in the seventh but came up on the short end.

The night cap featured a stellar pitching performance from Samantha Johnson. Picking up her first collegiate victory, Johnson allowed just one earned run and struck out nine in the victory. The offense got jump started with three runs in the first highlighted by an RBI single from Christina Fuqua and a two-run triple from Laura Beck. Three more runs came across in the third on an Ashley Davis single and a Beck sacrifice fly. Beck completed her stellar day at the plate with her first career home run in the fifth inning. Beck accounted for five RBI′s in the night cap. Geneva banged out 13 hits in game two including a 4-4 game from Christina Fuqua and two hits each from Beck, Taylor Yarletts and Samantha Johnson.
