Beaver Falls, PA – It had been over a month since the Geneva College softball team lost a game. On Saturday, a nine-game winning streak came to an end as the Golden Tornadoes managed a split against Thiel at Conrady Field. Geneva took game one by the score of 10-3 but dropped the night cap 8-0 in five innings. The split moved Geneva′s overall record to 13-9 including a 7-1 mark in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.

Thiel didn′t take long to get its offense on track as the Tomcats posted three runs in the top of the second of game one. Geneva came right back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single from Elyssa Simko. The score remained 3-2 until a Geneva offensive explosion of eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. RBI singles from Dayna Hicks and Christina Fuqua gave Geneva the lead with Samantha Johnson coming up with a two-run base hit to extend the lead.

Geneva finished game one with 12 hits including two each from Fuqua, Johnson, Ashley Davis and Samantha Johnson. Johnson settled down after allowing the three early runs. She earned her ninth victory of the season with a complete game. She surrendered nine hits and struck out three in the win.

Thiel jumped all over Geneva in game two with a three-spot in the bottom of the first inning. The Tomcats put together runs in each of their four offensive at-bats and cruised to an 8-0 victory. They had ten hits in the game and took advantage of four Geneva errors which led to five unearned runs. Meanwhile, Geneva′s offense went into shut-down mode with just one hit over five innings.

Geneva will host Baldwin-Wallace in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday at 3:30 pm. The Golden Tornadoes will head to Bethany on Tuesday to complete the suspended doubleheader before a showdown with Westminster in New Wilmington on Wednesday.
