Bethany, PA - In a doubleheader that ultimately took eight days to complete, Geneva and Bethany came away with a win and a loss each on Thursday. The two teams battled to a 2-2 tie into the seventh inning last Wednesday before lightning halted play. The teams hooked up at Bethany on Thursday to complete the suspended game and play game two of the double dip. Bethany prevailed in the suspended game 3-2 in ten innings with Geneva rebounding for a 5-1 victory in the night cap. The split pushed Geneva′s overall record to 15-13 including a 9-3 mark in the PAC and kept it in sole possession of second place.

Despite a couple of chances to win the game in the eighth and ninth innings, Geneva was unable to push a run across in the suspended first game. Bethany managed to take advantage of a Geneva error in the tenth to score an unearned run and escape with the win. Samantha Johnson was the hard luck loser after throwing a complete game and allowing just two earned runs on five hits while striking out five. Johnson also contributed a pair of hits in the game along with teammate Andrea Hinds.

After spotting Bethany the first run of the game in the night cap, the Golden Tornadoes finally got the offense going with four runs in the fifth inning. Geneva took advantage of a pair of Bethany errors in the inning and got RBI singles from Laura Beck and Lori Deem. Beck struck again in the sixth with another run scoring single. Johnson pitched another complete game in the night cap and earned her 11th win of the season. Johnson gave up five hits and struck out four along the way. Beck had three hits to lead Geneva′s 11-hit attack with Lori Deem also picking up a pair.

Geneva will host Washington & Jefferson in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 pm.
