CMC_logo.pngCollege students who are currently studying at the Contemporary Music Center (CMC) in Nashville, Tennessee, will perform a free concert at Geneva College on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in John White Chapel of Old Main. Doors will open at 7 p.m.

The concert will feature a guest performance by The Gentlemen, an experimental hard rock gentlemen.jpgband comprised of Geneva students. Members of the band include lead singer Ian Taylor, guitarist Alex Littleford, drummer Matt Neal and bass guitarist Allie Reefer.

The CMC is a semester-abroad program offered through the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). Students spend an entire semester completely immersed in the music industry at the center.

These students conclude their semester with a week-long tour to seven colleges around the country. Through the concerts, they showcase all that they have learned about the music industry throughout the semester.

The CMC students, who are divided by area of study, gain real-world experience. They earn 16 credits in one of three tracks. In the artist track, students study songwriting, performing and recording. Business track students learn about management, marketing, booking, publishing and copyright laws. Through the technical track, students learn about audio engineering, studio recording, sound reinforcement, lighting and video.

Stephen Johnston, a Geneva College junior who is in the CMC′s business track, will be part of the program. "I'm very excited for the show to come to Geneva," he said. "It will have a variety of acts from country to metal, with a production higher than most shows that come to Geneva. It is going to be pretty awesome, no joke."
