Waynesburg, PA - The Geneva College baseball team managed just one run through the first 16 innings of its three-game series against Waynesburg. Following a 5-1 loss to the Yellow Jackets on Friday, the Golden Tornadoes dropped game one of Saturday′s doubleheader by the count of 3-0. Geneva rebounded in game two and managed to salvage a split with a 5-3 victory. The split pushed Geneva′s overall record to 10-16 including a 5-9 mark in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.

Geneva managed to come up with only four base hits in game one. Meanwhile, Ian Macdonald pitched a solid game but was handed the loss after working six innings and allowing just two earned runs on six hits. The Yellow Jackets scored one run in the bottom of the second and posted a pair of insurance tallies in the fifth.

Game two started much better for the Golden Tornadoes. Geneva got on the board in the top of the first when it took advantage of a Waynesburg passed ball that allowed Garrett Swanson to score. After Waynesburg tied the game in the second, Geneva got a pair of runs in the third. A pair of Waynesburg errors and an RBI single from Aaron Witman plated the runs. One inning later, Geneva got two more runs highlighted by another Witman run scoring single.

Waynesburg tried to rally with a pair of runs in the sixth inning but Tanner Propst was able to shut the door. Propst earned the victory with a complete game. He allowed just one earned run in the victory. Geneva′s offense featured nine base hits including two each from Witman and Andy Santana.

Geneva will travel to Grove City on Monday for a single game before heading to New Wilmington on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Westminster. Geneva doesn′t return home until April 22nd for a non-conference doubleheader with Medaille.
