Beaver Falls, PA - The Geneva College baseball team was looking for a three-game sweep over rival Westminster after taking a doubleheader from the Titans last week. The Golden Tornadoes were unable to complete the trifecta with a 4-1 loss at 33rd Street Field on Tuesday. The loss dropped Geneva to 12-18 overall including a 7-11 record in conference play.

Despite another outstanding pitching performance from Mike Jeffreys, the Golden Tornadoes could only muster seven hits and the four defensive errors proved costly in the loss. Jeffreys went six innings and allowed just one earned run on three hits while striking out a season best 12 batters with only one walk.

Geneva opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first on a RBI ground out from Tyler Damazo. The Titans responded with an unearned run in the second to tie the game. Westminster would take its first lead of the game with a run in the fifth and single runs in the seventh and eighth innings would extend the lead.

Geneva had a great chance to get back in the game in the eighth inning when it let a bases loaded no outs situation go by the waste side without cashing in a run. Garrett Swanson and Mike Jeffreys each had a pair of hits for Geneva in its seven-hit attack.

The Golden Tornadoes will play a three-game series against Bethany this weekend with the first game at Bethany on Friday at 4 pm. The series concludes with a doubleheader at Geneva on Saturday at 1 pm.
